The Clydesdale was bred with large, well-proportioned feet and healthy legs for walking on hard, cobbled streets. They have longer legs and a more streamlined body than most draught breeds. The name 'Clydesdale' comes from the Clyde Valley in Lanarkshire, Scotland (formerly known as Clydesdale), where it probably originated.
